Fishing Hall to induct pair

Fishing Hall to induct pair
Jeffrey, Gaukler to join ranks

After an eight-year hiatus, the North Dakota Fishing Hall of Fame Board of Directors will  induct two members to elite club of those who can call themselves Fishing Hall of Fame members.
Joining the hall this year are Louis (Louie) Gaukler of Cayuga and Dennis Jeffrey of Garrison.
The last person named to the hall was the late Jim Fisher, longtime Governor’s Walleye Cup Committee member. He was inducted posthumously in 2005.
For Jeffrey, the honor was a surprise, yet humbling. He said there are many who deserve the honor, both locally and statewide, who promote the sport of fishing. One thing Jeffrey enjoys are the younger anglers.
“I’ve always enjoyed taking kids fishing,” he said.
Jeffrey is a well-known tournament angler who also serves as an ambassador for fishing in North Dakota and especially Lake Sakakawea. He was named the Angler of the Year for the RCL professional walleye circuit in 2004.
Jeffrey is the only North Dakotan to be named angler of the year on a professional circuit. He also has claim to many other walleye tournament accomplishments to include two World Walleye Association championships and several top 10 finishes in the North Dakota Governor’s Cup.
