Following her dream

BY TYSON SMEDSTAD
Some little girls dream of being princesses or ballet dancers when they grow up, but not Carissa Schumaier. She always wanted to be a Sheriffs Deputy.
Through thick and thin, she followed her dream, even if it may have been a straight path to get there.
“I knew since I was seven that I wanted to be a cop from watching movies and seeing their interaction with people and seeing them help people,” Carissa said. “When I’d see them driving, I’d ask my parents if we could follow them to see where they were going and what they were doing.”
After graduating high school in Pelican Rapids, Minn. she tried a traditional four-year college but said it just wasn’t for her.
After high school, she and her family moved to the small town of about 200 people, Dent, Minn.
This is where she had her son Mason.
