Food pantry to give hand up

Food pantry to give hand up

A dream is ready to become a reality.
It was only a few months ago when the Garrison Area Resource Center was formed to try to get a food pantry available in Garrison.
“We set some high goals,” President Alisa Dahl said. “One was to have a building and to be up and running in January.”
Those “high goals” were all reached.
She credits the reaching of the success thus far because of the “right people in the right place with the right skill set.”  She said the support of the community made it all come together.
“With the work of the board and the magnificent support from the community that’s where we are today.” Dahl said. “If we didn’t have that, this distribution in January wouldn’t have happened.”
She said the goal of January was lofty but a commitment because of the needs in the community. She said there are lots of generous options around the holidays, but January giving gets a little sparse.
“The board was pretty adamant about getting open,” she said.
The pantry is the back half the former Lazy J’s Bar. The bar had been for sale for a couple of years when Garrison Area Improvement Association purchased it. The rear portion was cleaned, repainted and outfitted with donated coolers from Camp of the Cross Ministries.
