Free water?

Manor cited in alleged theft
By STU MERRY

City officials are claiming a theft of services by the McLean Manor.
At Monday’s city council meeting, members heard the main water supply line to the Manor had been tampered with, allowing water to bypass the water meter.
The situation was discovered Monday when water bills were being processed at city hall. Maintenance personnel were notified by City Auditor Diane Affeldt that the Manor showed no water usage for November.
Anticipating a faulty water meter, city employees went to the basement of the Manor to look at the meter. It was discovered that the unit had been bypassed by closing two valves to the meter. A bypass valve was opened, allowing unmetered water to the building.
