Full steam ahead for firework sales

Dry conditions and lingering pandemic effects won’t slow down Garrison’s Memory Fireworks location, which will get its first load of fireworks for the year this weekend.
Jennifer Norenberg, who manages the Garrison location with her family, said the crew is ready for another busy year of sales.
“Last year was crazy busy,” Norenberg said. “Some of the stock, some of the big fireworks people look forward to were gone by July 3.”
The family, which has managed the location for four years, is preparing for the second year of sales out of the Memory Fireworks Building on N.D. Highway 37. A semi will arrive Saturday as the family starts to stock the building, though it may not be as full as hoped.
“We know we may not get the amount we normally due because of trucking and shipping coming from China,” Norenberg said.
With some persisting drought conditions in the county, firework activity is contingent on the fire danger index, which is updated daily.
A burn ban issued in McLean County earlier this year restricts fireworks to days when the fire danger index is rated as low, moderate or high. McLean County is currently rated as very high, meaning fireworks, campfires, charcoal grills and more are not permitted.
