GAIA experiences fruitful year

GAIA experiences fruitful year
By CHERYL ODDEN

Garrison Area Improvement Association members showed support for the organization’s leadership by re-electing three directors during Monday’s annual meeting. A unanimous ballot was cast for Teresa Peterson, Marty Dahl and President Mike Gackle to serve an additional three years. Rounding out the board are Vice-president Mike Youngs, Secretary/Treasurer Mike Matteson, and directors Shannon Staehr, Paul Schlichting, Kyle Giffey and Dave Jeffrey.
As part of his president’s report, Gackle reported numerous GAIA accomplishments during the past year. A partial list includes:
•Recruitment, with incentives, to attract Attorney Jim Wilson to establish a practice in Garrison.
•Hired Keith Witt, retired Bismarck police chief, as its executive director. He replaces Jude Iverson who retired from the position.
•Purchased a pontoon that will be leased to Fort Stevenson State Park for use as a rental to park visitors.
