Gaming for the greater good

By ALYSSA ADAM

It’s all in the game. The Garrison Area Improvement Association is using fun to benefit Garrison and the surrounding area.

GAIA gaming has been around since 1999. Managed previously by Jim Wilson, its vision and mission is to support many local charities and create revenue for both the location and GAIA to put back into the community and keep operations going.

"The overall goals are to stabilize current operations and take the board and Jim’s vision forward," new Gaming Manager Mike Balaban said.

Locations in Garrison, Max, Underwood and Riverdale offer a wide variety of games for patrons to choose from.

"We provide bingo, pull tabs, black jack, prize boards and pigwheel," Balaban said. "We also offer poker by teaming up with Garrison Fire Department around March in Garrison."

This year’s scheduled poker event is March 12 at the Garrison Golf Course.

Balaban said, with all of the positive feedback, people are excited for big gaming with higher prices and payouts and the expansion of gaming locally.
