Garrison and Max FFA students compete at nationals

BY DIANE NEWBERRY
As this newspaper is being printed, representatives from both the Garrison and Max FFA chapters are competing at the 92nd National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis. Students will be showing off a few different projects, but one recent Max graduate, Christina Bingham, 18, will be competing in three different competition areas: employment skills, the agriscience fair and supervised agricultural experience.
“That’s probably the biggest highlight we have of the whole trip,” Max FFA Advisor Amanda Huettl said. “Her situation is very rare.”
Bingham joined FFA in the seventh grade, but she wasn’t sure if she was so enthusiastic about it when she began.
“I was nervous about it because my older sister wasn’t the most fond of FFA or ag class just because that’s not her style and she didn’t enjoy it as much, so I was a little weary going into it,” Bingham said.
But, she figured she “had nothing to lose” by signing up, and by the time she had the chance to compete in nationals for the first time as an eighth grader, she was hooked.
