Acting as a taxpayer and not under his official role as a city councilmember, David Jeffrey asks initial questions about Garrison going back to a contract with the county for police resources to help with future budget issues. During the McLean County Commissions meeting Aug. 16, Jeffrey approached the commissioners about the idea to get some legwork on whether or not the idea was even a possibility. “I am here as a taxpayer for the city of Garrison,” Jeffrey said right off the bat to the commissioners. “My question to you, is what would it cost for the city of Garrison to get the McLean County Sheriff’s Department back.” Jeffrey said he wanted to feel out the county leaders on the possibility of establishing a policing contract like they do with other cities and what was done in the past prior to Garrison getting their
own police department. “We did our (preliminary) budget here the other day, and we are sitting at $321,000 for our police department”
Jeffrey stated regarding policing costs, noting when the county and city had a contract previously, the costs were “considerably less expensive.” “I don’t see our budget going anywhere but up.”
