Garrison Fire Department eying equipment updates

Garrison Fire Department eying equipment updates

The Garrison Fire Department could be in line for new pagers if its request before the city’s Sales and Use Tax Committee is approved.
At their meeting Monday, Garrison City Council members directed the city’s representative on the committee, Mayor Shannon Jeffers, to vote in favor of a request by the department for $15,000. The funds would be used to offset replacement costs of all department pagers.
The changeover in pagers would bring the department into compliance with a federal mandate that broadband signals must migrate to narrowband width. Presently, the pagers use broadband technology. Total cost of the pagers is approximately $16,000. Other representative groups on the committee include the Chamber of Commerce (Shannon Staehr), Tonya Graeber (park board), Dave Jeffrey (GAIA) and Dave Mautz (rural).
