Garrison man apprehended in local heist

A 22-year-old former Garrison man who recently moved to Bismarck is in custody in Mountrail County, awaiting extradition to McLean County, for his part in the burglary of a Garrison business. The individual is facing charges in three counties for his offenses – Burleigh, McLean and Mountrail.
According to authorities, Andrew Ross stole a vehicle in Bismarck, driving to Garrison where he reportedly used a golf club to break into the Escape to Eden. Salon and Spa.
Karen Heinzen, owner of the business, said she received a call early this past Saturday morning, saying her business had been broken into. She confirmed a golf club was used to gain entrance through the front door. Once inside, the perpetrator took cash (about $240) from a drawer. He also took a .22 caliber pistol. Heinzen said the burglar went through every room in the business, but no merchandise was taken. The only damage was to the front door. Heinzen said except for the damage to the front door, it’s business as usual.
Ross then apparently used a golf club to attempt to break out the drive up window at Garrison State Bank & Trust. But as it was bullet-proof glass, the window did not break.
Law enforcement said Ross then headed to New Town where authorities stopped him for speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol. Ross reportedly fled on foot, but ran into a barbed wire fence where he was apprehended. During the stop, BIA authorities discovered that the car had been stolen. A search of the vehicle followed, which turned up the firearm. The serial number of the gun was run through the system and matched the number of the gun stolen in Garrison, said McLean County Sheriff Don Charging.
“It worked out well,” said Charging.
