Garrison object of redistricting tug-of-war

Garrison object of redistricting tug-of-war

By STU MERRY

Garrison, and quite possibly Max, are smack dab in the middle of a political tug of war.
A Republican-backed redistricting plan is on one end of the rope, while a Democrat supported proposal is on the other.
Two of the rival redistricting plans before the Legislative Redistricting Committee, known as Template A and Template B, place Garrison in different districts. Max could also fall in one or the other. Previous proposals would have put western McLean County and Garrison in District 4, and the rest of the county in District 8. Yet another early plan had the majority of McLean County as part of District 8.
Sen. John Warner, D-Ryder, sits on the Redistricting Committee. He maintains Template A is the Republican plan. Those members include Chairman Senator Ray Holmberg of Grand Forks, Sen. Tony Grindberg of Fargo, Rep. Nancy Johnson of Dickinson, Sen. Jerry Klein of Fessenden, Rep. David Monson of Osnabrock, Sen. Dwight Cook of Mandan, Rep. Bill Devlin of Finley, Sen. Stan Lyson of Williston, Sen. Randy Christman of Hazen, Rep Larry Bellew of Minot, Rep. Jim Kasper of Fargo and Rep. Mike Nathe of Bismarck. All are Republicans.
