It’s time to look to the future. Garrison School is in the midst of a growth spurt. Space is at a premium at both the high school and elementary school.
To address the matter, members of the Garrison High School Building and Grounds Committee will recommend to the full board Tuesday that it hire an architect. The architect would be tasked to look into creating plans for expansion at both the high school and elementary school.
School officials said two options would be considered. Option 1 would include two additional classrooms at the elementary school and a new ag/shop and multipurpose addition at the high school. Option 2 would be more of a long-range plan. It would include construction of a separate middle school complex. The structure would be built on the north side of the high school building and be connected to the existing building. As in Option 1, an ag/shop and multipurpose room would be built.
School officials note that either option would require a bond issue.
The decision to advance the hiring of an architect to the full board came at a meeting Oct. 19.
“Now, it’s not adequate,” said Superintendent Steve Brannan of the constraints. If approved, the ag/shop area would grow to be three times the size of the current shop.
