Garrison school staffing almost set

Special ed. remains only opening

By STU MERRY

When the school year resumes in a few weeks, 11 new staff members will greet students at Garrison Schools. The only position left to fill is special education.

While there will be many new faces in the classroom, there will be a couple changes. Taking over the Tech/Business Education Department for Dan Splichal is Jason Mattheis. Stepping into Mattheis’ post in social studies is Justin Folk.

Monday night, the board accepted, with regret, the resignation of Whitney Wolf. She is relocating to the Grand Forks area to become a kindergarten teacher at Discovery Elementary School. Wolf taught in the Garrison School system one year.

A familiar name will be a paraprofessional – Mary Jo Price. She is the wife of veteran bus driver Joe Price.

Not all teacher contracts have been returned, but school officials are confident those will fall into place. Support staff contracts have been issued with all being returned.

Staff and administration negotiations are done. New Secondary Principal Steve Dangel will receive $70,000 plus a benefits package. Elementary Principal Shelly Fuller will receive $79,000 plus principal benefits. Business Manager Bobbi Jo Anderson’s new contract calls for a salary of $63,270, plus business manager benefits.
