Construction carried on as usual at the Biota Treatment Plant being built just east of Max last Wednesday. Meanwhile, a tour group led by the North Dakota Water Education Foundation watched as part of the Northwest Area Water Supply (NAWS) Project took shape. The plant, which is due to be completed in 2024, was among the stops during a tour led by the North Dakota Water Education Foundation; plants and stations that aided the water supply for north-central North Dakota were highlighted. NAWS was designed to service an area of about 81,000 people, including 63,000 in urban areas. Twenty years ago, a main line was built between Lake Sakakawea and the City of Minot. Before NAWS was established, that service area got their water supply from groundwater, which had quality and quantity issues.
