Motorists in the region, as well as nationwide, appear to be getting a reprieve. The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline – as of Tuesday, it was $4.65 – dropped 15 cents in the past week, as well as 36 cents from a month ago when it tipped the five dollar mark. According to a press release from AAA, 42 million people – a new record – hit the roads during the Fourth of July weekend. Despite the increase in gas demand – from 8.92 million to 9.41 million barrels per day – during the holiday, gas didn’t go up. “Usually, more people buying gas would lead to higher pump prices,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson.
