Highway proposal gets backing

The Garrison City Council is in accord with a recommendation by the Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee’s goal to add turning lanes at the intersection of N.D. Highway 37 and McLean County 15.
The city’s business district has expanded beyond the area encompassed by the existing 45 mph zone.
The council and committee also support reducing speeds from 65 to 55 from the Stoney End corner to the 45 mph mark near the golf course. The desire is to also request a speed reduction from the 45 mph sign west of County 15, continuing to the Cenex bulk plant.
GAIA is backing the effort, and the Garrison School and chamber of commerce are being asked to come on board as well.
“It’s going to make a big difference,” GAIA President Mike Gackle told council members at their meeting Monday night.
The letter was drafted by GAIA and addressed to Jim Redding, district traffic engineer with the State Department of Transportation. The stretch of Highway 37 is a heavily traveled corridor through Garrison.
