History on towers’ side

If the City of Garrison wants to move ahead with plans to erect a new water tower, it must first abide by guidelines recommended by the State Historical Society when it comes to the existing twin water towers.
At their meeting Monday night, council members reviewed documents provided by Moore Engineering and Juniper, LLC, an archaeology and environmental consulting firm from Bismarck.
Because the twin towers have some historical value, and plans are to remove the structures once a new above ground water storage unit is erected, documentation must first take place.
Officials with the State Historical Society recommend "archival quality photography of the structures, a short history, and a diagram or elevation of the structures that shows how they function." The three are components of a standard mitigation requirement. The estimated cost to the city – $5,700.
