Hoeven-Dorgan race would be neck, neck
A U.S. Senate race between Gov. John Hoeven and incumbent Sen. Byron Dorgan would be neck-and-neck if the election were held today, according to the latest North Dakota Prairie Poll.
If he were to challenge Rep. Earl Pomeroy, Hoeven would likely be the winner, poll results suggest.
Incumbent Democrats Dorgan and Pomeroy are up for re-election in 2010, and since winning re-election last year Hoeven has been pondering a bid for Congress.
Poll results show less than one point separation between Hoeven and Dorgan, with a relatively large number – 37.8 percent – undecided.
Hoeven would beat Pomeroy 38 percent to 24 percent, according to the poll results, but again there are a lot of people in the undecided camp.
In a race against Dorgan, Hoeven had the most support in Crosby and Kenmare, with 38 percent of voters in either community saying Hoeven would be their choice.
Dorgan had the highest support in New Town and Rolla where over 40 percent of those polled would pick the incumbent.
In a race against Pomeroy, Hoeven had the most support in Watford City, with 54 percent.
