Ice will be nice
Skating rink bids sought
By STU MERRY

It was beginning to look like it would be a long cold winter. Plans to advance rebuilding the indoor ice rink in Garrison seemed to slow like water freezing on a flag pole at -32 below.
Tuesday night, the temps warmed like the July summer. Progress was finally being made.
Garrison City Council members received the specs for a new structure and approved advertizing for bids.
And where will the rink be built? At the existing location near Wilderness Park in northeast Garrison.
The new structure will be similar in shape to original – a 5,000-square foot (50x100) building with an attached 512-square foot (16x32) warming house.
The specs call for two 12-foot doors on each end of the main building. Restrooms will be interior access only. The original facility had exterior access to the warming house restrooms and was the scene of many break-ins.
The guidelines will be published in the Independent for two weeks. The council said it reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids. Bid opening will be Aug. 1 at 7:05 p.m.
