Land development receives support

By STU MERRY

Garrison City Council members back a plan to create an ad hoc committee that will pursue the purchase of land for apartment or multi-family development.

At their meeting Monday, the council reviewed, then discussed the city’s planning and zoning commission report that recommends that a group be established.

Membership would consist of the council, the planning and zoning commission, and Garrison Area Improvement Association. Their task would be to begin looking at acquiring and/or to develop residential areas that would accommodate apartments, duplexes or similar structures, and that would comply with the city’s new comprehensive plan.

Mayor Shannon Jeffers said something needs to be done.

"We are so landlocked, we have to get the process going," he said.

Alderman Paul Schlichting added, "It wouldn’t hurt to have some land available."
