Four McLean County residents with connections to the sheriff’s department have obtained petitions seeking election to succeed Sheriff Don Charging.

County Auditor Les Korgel said last week that petitions have been submitted by Curt Olson and Richard Johnson and petitions have been obtained from the auditor’s office from Rick Schwalk and J.R. Kerzmann.

"There could be more," Korgel said. "The petition forms are on the county’s website and the Secretary of State’s website so we may not know who all has them out there," he added.

The top two vote getters for each office in the June 10 primary election will be on the Nov. 4 general election.

A new sheriff will be elected in the November election to replace 16-year veteran Sheriff Don Charging who has announced he’s not seeking a fifth term.
