Islands in the sun

By STU MERRY

The City of Garrison prides itself on being one of the more attractive communities in the region.

Now, the Garrison Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee is looking to undertake another project for community beautification and for safety.

At Monday’s city council meeting, Executive Committee members Mandi Britton, Amber Carter and Chamber President Sharon Jungling presented the committee’s project for the year – the three islands along Trooper Avenue.

The project areas are along Trooper Avenue and on First Street SE, near NAPA Auto Parts; First Avenue SW, the end of Main Street; and First Street SW, near the ATA Fitness building.

"It’s keeping you in the loop as to what we are proposing," said Britton.

The project would see shrubs removed from the Main Street and First Street SW islands. Rocks and low maintenance plants would be placed in those areas.
