Keeping the law in enforcement
Tribe, county sign aid pact
By STU MERRY
There are no more safe havens on the Fort Berthold Reservation for people trying to elude law enforcement.
A mutual aid pact is between the McLean County Sheriff’s Department and Three Affiliated Tribes. There are three primary focus areas; Hot Pursuit, Use of Force and Mental Health. Documents were signed and presented to McLean County commissioners.
The agreements resolve who is in charge when it comes to law enforcement between the Sheriff’s Department and the Tribe.
McLean County Sheriff JR Kerzmann told the board he is comfortable with the agreement.
"I am very satisfied," he said. "It should resolve a lot of issues."
It’s something that’s been on the county’s agenda for some time.
