The unofficial kickoff to summer in the Garrison area is this weekend.
It’s time for the annual Garrison Chamber of Commerce Trade Promotions Committee’s Block Party. Also this weekend is the 18th annual Skydance Sakakawea Kite Festival. The Block Party will be at noon Saturday on Garrison’s Main Street. Skydance will be Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Fort Stevenson State Park, three miles south of Garrison. The festival will be daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting.
Trade Promotions Committee members said that this year’s event will feature hot dogs and chips. Proceeds from the freewill offering will be to support Skydance Sakakawea.
Three-time Grand National Champion Kitemaker, John Pollock, will be in attendance at Skydance.. John Pollock is a Professor of Art at Montana State University-Billings, where he has taught since 1974. According to Skydance founder Deb Lenzen of Bismarck, Pollock’s kites are truly extraordinary and create an art gallery in the sky.
