Klemisch new Garrison superintendent

By STU MERRY

A Valley City resident is Garrison’s new school superintendent.

Garrison School Board members chose Nick Klemisch over four other candidates this past week.

Klemisch is currently director of special education for the Sheyenne Valley Multi-District special Education Unit that serves six school districts.

In his letter to the North Dakota School Board Association’s Executive Director Jon Martinson, Klemisch said his position is equal to that of a school superintendent, "with the primary difference being I am limited to special education services for my member districts."

Martinson was hired by the Garrison School Board to facilitate the superintendent search.

Klemisch said he is ready to take the next step.

"My experiences have provided me with the skills necessary to ensure I will continue to do what is best for all students," he wrote in his profile.

Klemisch is no stranger to the area.

"For me personally, I have spent some of the best times of my life on Lake Sakakawea camping, fishing, and hunting in and around Garrison," he said. "It is these opportunities that I would like to be able to share with my two sons, Rylan, 3, and Hudson, 1, and wife Holly," he said. "My family and I thoroughly enjoy outdoor activities and we could not dream of a better place to reside."

Klemisch said when he and his wife were reviewing the positions across the state, Garrison was without question their number one pick.
