Things are on the move in area lake communities.
When it comes to growth in McLean County, a hot spot has been established in the lake-neighboring communities north of Garrison.
Ryan Oberg, McLean County Land Use Administrator, reports that his office has observed a pattern when it comes to development in the county.
“The areas in Mclean county we’ve noted to have consistently higher levels of activity and growth are those five townships on the north side of Audubon and Sakakawea,” Oberg said.
Oberg said the townships, which are five of the county’s 71 total, are packed more tightly with developed neighborhoods than other townships in the county.
“These five townships have a notably higher concentration of development – more subdivisions, more lots – than most other rural areas of the county,” Oberg said, noting this excluded the other lake areas of Crooked, Strawberry, Brush and Blue Lakes.
The area of note spans from Douglas Bay to the east end of Lake Audubon, comprising about 180 square miles.
Oberg said these areas are often referred to as recreational due to proximity to the lakes, but are assessed the same as any other residential properties.
