Last call for dinner, deadline Friday noon Proceeds from event may shore up Meadows project Because of a deadline for ordering gourmet food, reservations for a special community dinner in Garrison on Sunday, Oct. 26 must be received by Friday noon. That dinner will feature, high quality Angus beef steaks and giant steamed shrimp, said co-chairs of the event, Kyle Giffey of Kyle’s Katering and Jude Iverson, secretary-treasurer of the sponsoring Better Living for Garrison (BLFG) organization. The Angus beef steaks (either ribeye or New York cut), a new product of Super Valu Stores introduced this month, will be supplied by Garrison Super Valu. The giant shrimp are being special ordered. The gourmet community Progress Dinner is a fundraiser and membership event of BLFG. A year ago, a similar event, called a Victory Dinner, was held for persons contributing $100 or more to the capital campaign for The Meadows, assisted living project. The Meadows is the first of several community projects being considered by BLFG. Goal of each project will be to enhance the quality of life of Garrison area residents. This year’s dinner will be for all persons or couples who respond favorably to invitations to become 2008-09 members at a minimum of $100. The entire contribution will be tax-deductible because of BLFG’s approval as a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization. That’s because none of the revenue will go towards the social and dinner; all food and beverages (including red and white wine at each table), their preparation and the serving are being donated Dinner reservations (which end at Friday noon) have been somewhat disappointing, according to Jude Iverson, secretary-treasurer of BLFG. "We hope there’ll be a late rush, but up to this point the results of our invitation-mailing have been disappointing," she said.
