PICKARDVILLE – A Turtle Lake-Mercer school bus transporting the fifth and sixth grade girls basketball team to practice in McClusky was involved in a three-vehicle accident here Friday afternoon. Eleven girls were on the bus, nine were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries. All have been released. The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on ND 200 at mile marker 221, one-half mile east of Pickardville. According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol report, a 2004 Chevy Impala was traveling westbound and crossed the center line. A pickup pulling a trailer was traveling east and steered to the right to avoid a collision with the Impala. The Impala missed the pickup but struck the trailer. The school bus was behind the trailer and hit the Impala head on. The bus overturned onto its right side and came to rest in the intersection of ND 200 and 1st Ave NW. The driver of the Impala, Danelle Germain, 35, of Harvey was pronounced dead at the scene.
