Leaving a legacy of dedication

GARRISON – Members of the Garrison Fire Department gathered for their annual Fall Supper Meeting Oct. 28. In attendance, like he has been for the past four decades was former fire chief Bruce Schreiner. Unbeknownst to him, though, this was a night to honor the long-time fireman and former fire chief.
In announcing the surprise honor, Current Fire Chief Tod Graeber praised Schreiner as an extraordinary individual, one dedicated to the community.
Schreiner began his journey as a fireman July 24, 1984. And for 41 years, he has served with unwavering commitment, Graeber said.
Schreiner’s leadership journey saw him rise through the ranks, ultimately becoming fire chief in 1993. He served in that role for 32 years, guiding the department through countless challenges and advancements.
During his tenure, Schreiner made sure the department and firefighters were well taken care of and had nothing but the best, to ensure the department was ready and able with each call.
“He made sure our equipment and resources were always state-of-the-art,” Graber went on to say.
He wanted the best for the firefighters under him and for the department. Schreiner agreed.
“I just wanted to make sure I had the best equipment so that I could be safe, and to keep those who were underneath me safe.”
Graeber said Schreiner’s commitment to keeping members of the department safe and prepared is truly commendable.
In accepting his recognition, Schreiner credited the rural board for going above and beyond to help make sure the department had nothing but the best.
