Let us entertain you

By CHERYL ODDEN

The 20th annual edition of Garrison’s Dickens Village Festival begins this weekend. The three weekend event will conclude Dec. 14.
Highlights of this weekend’s festival – the only one that includes a Sunday – center around entertainment and a few special events.
Friday
Afternoon entertainment on Friday will be Elvis impersonator Travis Powell.
As a boy, growing up in North Carolina, Powell grew up listening to, and loving, the music of Elvis Presley. As a youth he took part in school talent competitions and performed at church.
Previously touring as a country rock artist, Powell’s talent took off in a new – and not so new – direction. He’s become an award-winning Elvis impersonator who embraces the opportunity to perform songs of his lifelong musical idol.
His performances are filled with passion and emotion as he mimics “Elvis  live and in concert.” He focuses on authenticity and, like the man who inspired him, can captivate audiences with a simple smile.
During the short year he’s been performing as an Elvis tribute artist, Powell has won three of the country’s largest sanctioned Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contests.
Elvis “live” will come to the stage of Garrison’s Kota Theater Friday. Plan to purchase tickets early … Elvis has plenty of eager fans anticipating his visit.
