Local groups benefit from ‘Hunger’ campaign

The efforts of Garrison Farmer’s Union Elevator/CHS will benefit two local organizations.
At Monday’s Garrison Chamber of Commerce meeting, elevator manager Chris Gratton reported the elevator placed second in a recent “Harvest for Hunger” food drive. Gratton noted that the local elevator, with assistance from the Garrison FFA chapter, generated enough donations to provide 67,500 meals to those who struggle with hunger.
As a reward, CHS provided the local elevator with funds that it could distribute to local organizations.
During the meeting, Gratton presented a check for $1,800 to Gifts from the Heart, a community organization that provides food baskets and Christmas gifts to less fortunate families and individuals who live in the area.
Another check, for $500, was given to the Sakakawea Area Council for the Arts (SACA). Dick Hendrickson, a representative of both organizations, accepted the funds.
In other business, Keith Witt, a member of the chamber’s Community Development Committee, shared plans to purchase and install a sign at the City Park. The cost, about $10,000, would be met without requesting funds from the city.
