‘Watchdog’ keeps eye on state’s budget

By STU MERRY

The financial forecast for North Dakota may not be as bright as it once was, but that doesn’t dampen District 8 Rep. Jeff Delzer’s optimism that the state will persevere and thrive well into the future.

"I believe North Dakota will continue to be one of the best places to live and raise families," said Delzer.

Now serving his 12th session, the Republican chairman of the Appropriations Committee from Underwood said he thinks there are many opportunities for activities, both outdoor and in communities across the state.

This year’s session has legislators doing the balancing act more than ever. Each session comes with its own set of twists and turns. This session is no different.

"There are always surprises in each session as well as the non surprises. Many of the ideas and bills that have come in have been there in the past. Delzer said he relies on his institutional knowledge to help him navigate. "It really helps," he said.
