Makoti became a town 100 years ago, and its community will celebrate that fact this weekend.
The people of Makoti are expecting a big turnout for the centennial celebration. The town could see its population of 154 balloon to 10 times that size over the course of the weekend.
According to Chair of Registration Lisa Schenfisch, 700 people, including alumni, family members of alumni, town residents and past residents, have pre-registered for the centennial.
“It wouldn’t be surprising to see upwards of 1,500 people in town throughout the celebration,” added Schenfisch.
One of the main events of the celebration will be the parade on Saturday.
According to parade chairman Hillman Anderson, there have been 40 entrants in the parade so far. Anderson said he is expecting 60-70 entrants total.
