Marina poised to provide lifetime of fun
Plans underway for next summer

The Garrison Bay Marina is now complete. Work concluded on the new facility on the west side of Fort Stevenson State Park about six weeks ago.
But don’t think for a minute that just because the outdoor recreation season is over that all’s quiet on the marina front.
Plans are already being made to make next summer bigger and better than this year. Carey Gieser and Nicole Folden, along with Carey’s daughter Crystal, operators of concessions at the marina this past summer, met with Parks and Rec. officials Monday. The group huddled at the Fort Stevenson Guardhouse to discuss what outdoor recreationalists can anticipate once winter gives way to spring and summer fun.
Fort Stevenson State Park Manager Dick Messerly said the push would be to get everything moved over to the new Garrison Bay Marina and get it fully operational as soon as possible come the spring.
“From the park’s perspective, it’s to get everything situated at the new marina,” Messerly said. “Construction wasn’t finished in time to get things up and running this past summer. But the goal the next couple years is to focus on the new marina. A grand opening will be sometime next summer.”
As things progress, more attention will be given to the deTrobriand Bay (Fort Stevenson) marina.
“But for now, the main focus will be on the new marina and to see how things will work together the best way.”
Standing at the top of the gangway that leads to the water in the new marina, Carey said one of the biggest changes would be the number of slips at the new marina. About 60 slips will be attached to the walkway. Another 20 or so will be at the Fort Stevenson Marina on deTrobriand Bay, bringing the total to more than 80 boat slips.
