Meadows opening reset; campaign tops $525,000
Dates for renting one- and two-bedroom apartments at The Meadows and for the grand opening-dedication of the new assisted living facility were selected at a meeting of the Better Living for Garrison (BLFG) board of directors last week.
Residents will be accepted on Sept. 15. That represents a delay of about two weeks from the hoped-for date of Sept. 1. Construction delays, principally caused by the severity of the 2008-09 winter, were too much to overcome, said Mark Meyer of New Salem, project manager for Helenske Design, Fargo-Moorhead. He told the board a good deal of time was made up by the contractors but not enough to meet the earlier Sept. 1 date.
Also attending the BLFG meeting last week was Kevin Greff, Bismarck, president of Benedictine Living Communities of North and South Dakota. That non-profit organization will be operating The Meadows under a lease/option-to-purchase arrangement with BLFG.
The grand opening-dedication for The Meadows has been tentatively set for Sunday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. Scott Foss, administrator of the Garrison Benedictine Center (nursing home) who will also head up management of The Meadows, said the grand opening-dedication will take the place of the center’s annual free public picnic. Foss reported to the BLFG board at a meeting Tuesday that half of the available units have already been rented even though the opening date is more than a month away.
