A merger of two area cooperatives is planned that would join CHS/Garrison Farmers Union Elevator and Falkirk Farmers Elevator. It would also include the Falkirk Farmers Elevator terminal in Hazen.
An informational meeting regarding the proposed merger between the cooperatives is slated for tonight (Thursday) at 5 p.m. at the Riverdale Lodge. Managers for the elevators said they encourage patrons to attend.
A working relationship between Falkirk and Garrison elevators has been in place for a few years. That relationship was an excellent business partnership, said Garrison Farmer Union Elevator Manager Chris Gratton.
Talks between Gratton and Falkirk Farmers Elevator Manager Ron Hefta began last summer. It was followed by the boards adopting the idea. Now, officials of the two co-ops want to take the next step.
The talks progressed to include CHS Executive Vice President John McEnroe, Carl Younce, director of CHS’s Northland Division, country operations, and Mike Johnston, director of business development, country operations.
