How much is enough to have in the bank?
Steve Seidler, Garrison school board member, said Tuesday evening he thinks $678,000 might not be enough. That’s about a 16 percent carryover – or the difference between the revenue and expenses – of the $4.3 million budget.
Seidler said he was looking ahead. He said, “If a bond issue passes and we build on to the school, we’re going to have extra expenses. Will the carryover cover that?”
Superintendent Steve Brannan assured him that spending will still be frugal and just because it’s in the budget it won’t necessarily be spent.
Board member Duane Hummel said he was comfortable with the carryover of 15-20 percent and a budget that includes the purchase of a $50,000 bus this year.
