New bond date set

By STU MERRY

Garrison School District patrons will be asked to go to the polls Nov. 4 or vote earlier by mail. The issue before them will be a multimillion dollar decision for additions to the elementary and high schools.

At their meeting Monday night, board members voted unanimously to proceed with a third bond vote.

Setting things in motion for the election, the school’s Buildings and Grounds Committee and members of the Yes Committee will meet Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., to update and streamline a brochure that explains what is planned. The Yes Committee is a group of citizens who is tasked to inform the public what is proposed, to encourage people to vote and to gain support for the school expansion project.

As another way to inform the public, the Yes Committee is considering offering to meet with some of the major employers in the community and have a question and answer period for employees and staff.

Earlier, Monday, Yes Committee’s Ben Gehring met with members of the Chamber of Commerce’s Governmental Affairs Committee. The feeling was conveyed that it would be counterproductive to have a stand-alone election. Committee members favored a General Election vote. Mulling over dates that evening, the board agreed.
