New Garrison superintendent visits

By STU MERRY

Garrison’s new school superintendent and his family spent the past weekend enjoying what the area has to offer. Tuesday, he began getting familiar with the two campuses, Garrison High School and Bob Callies Elementary, that he will oversee come July 1.

Members of the Garrison Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee met Nick and Holly Klemisch and their children, Rylan and Hudson, Tuesday.

The new superintendent said he and his family are looking forward to moving to Garrison. The family has purchased a home in Garrison. Klemisch said he thinks that’s important.

"As superintendent, I think it’s imperative to live in the community," he said.

He said he’s looking forward to his first day on the job, adding until then it will be a busy June.

The family will move to their Garrison home June 15. "I’ll be here July 1 and hit the ground running," he said.

Asked what his initial plans are, Klemisch said he has some rough ideas of what he would like to see and do. Priorities are to do what’s best for the kids.

"My primary focus will always be the students first," he said. "We don’t blend things beyond our control. A lot of times in education we get hung up on environmental factors, they might come from a poor home or have some disability, or what have you. We can’t blame those factors, we have to work with what we have and move forward.
