For four McLean County banks, ushering in the new year means more than just symbolic change.
It means the official launch of TruCommunity Bank, the new name for Garrison State Bank, Farmers Security Bank and the Bank of Turtle Lake.
Jan. 1, 2022 marked the first day that the bank locations would unify under the new name, which was selected in mid 2021 as a tribute to the banks’ foundation.
Jamie Nelson, majority shareholder of McLean Bank Holding Company, said when presented with options for a new bank name, combining “true” with “community” was a natural fit.
“Really, we’re ‘true community.’ We’ve always focused on the strength of our local economies and our local customers and I couldn't think of anything that described what we are for communities more than a true community bank, so we kind of just pieced it together,” Nelson said.
With the new name came a new logo, which pulled inspiration from McLean County’s economy.
“The logo stands for water, energy and agriculture,” Nelson said, referencing the blue, red and green elements of the logo. “And that is McLean County’s economy, those three things.”
