Ordinance Officer OK'd

By STU MERRY

City officials in Garrison would like their ordinances enforced to the fullest.

That’s why at their October meeting they agreed to fund – separately from their contract with the McLean County Sheriff’s Department – a part-time ordinance officer. The off-duty McLean County Sheriff’s Department deputy would focus on city ordinances six hours a week. The cost would be $7,800.

"Are we going to need that six hours every week? I don’t know," said Alderman Paul Schlichting, member of the Police, Public Buildings and Fire Department Committee. "Maybe the first six months …."

Funds for ordinance enforcement officer will come from three funds – $2,000 from trailer park fund, $2,000 from the landfill fund and $4,000 from the general fund.
