The clock is ticking down for a special school bond election in Garrison. The date is Thursday, Feb. 5.

At their meeting Tuesday, Jan. 20, Garrison School Board members received an update on the school’s efforts to promote the issue.

The Buildings & Grounds Committee met Feb. 5 to plan what information will be distributed to the public regarding the vote.

Information is being sent with students. Information is also being inserted in the McLean County Independent, explaining what is proposed. Material will also be distributed at next Thursday’s basketball game between Max and Garrison.

Committee members said they are unanimous in their support of the bond. School board member and committee member Lisa Maki said she is committed to see the issue through.

"As a board member I will continue to support bond elections because I firmly believe our current staff and administration deserve a safe, reliable, comfortable and current environment to learn," she said.

The school board backs the plan to bond $5.9 million for improvements to the two school campuses. The plan includes 18,400 square feet of new construction and 4,200 square feet of remodeling between the elementary campus and high school.

The proposed construction will provide nine additional classrooms, additional restrooms, special services meeting rooms, an updated library/media workspace, multipurpose lunchroom, safety code upgrades and a vocational shop
