Police activity kicks up

By JILL DENNING GACKLE

Relatively quiet policing days of January moved into high gear in February.

In the first two days of February, there were nine calls. That's almost as much as the entire month of January with 11 calls, the Garrison city council members learned Monday evening.

The two days of activity included removal of an unwanted person, welfare check, two domestic disturbances, an escort, assist of the sheriff's office and a neighbor disagreement.

Police Chief Travis Tesch said he worked 20 hours more than his 40-hour week events Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

His weekend work included the case of an intoxicated individual who was arrested for disorderly conduct at the Garrison hospital. Several hours later Tesch transported her to the McLean County jail in Washburn where she remains.

Tesch worked independently and with the McLean County Sheriff's Department.

“The deputies were johnny on the spot when I needed help this weekend,” Tesch said. He reported that when he requested help a county officer arrived within 10 minutes. He said he was asked by the county to aid in an incident at the hospital earlier in the week, which he said was an indication of the give-and-take with the county officers.
