Police department staffing takes hit

BY TYSON SMEDSTAD

Five months into the formation of the Garrison Police Department, the department is again looking for staff. Once staffed with a chief and later two full-time officers Garrison City Council is now looking to interview again.
John Gallagher, the second officer hired to work part-time and then full-time, is going back to school in the fall. Police Chief Travis Tesch informed the council of the pending resignation, although he said he would like to offer Gallagher a part-time position.
Council members agreed to have Tesch contact another applicant before starting to advertise for the position.
The department is off to a good start, according to Tesch.
He said, “We are getting a lot of calls from departments around the state in support for what we have done here.”
He said the department is getting free equipment from agencies and the Minot Police Department gave Garrison Police Department a XT taser.
Ray Police Department is giving the Garrison department a 2009 Expedition with new engine since the Ray department is getting new vehicles.
