City to examine matching funds for pool grant

Further action on supplying matching funds to help Garrison Parks and Rec secure a statewide grant to renovate the city’s pool is in the works. At the Garrison City Council’s meeting Monday evening, Keith Witt from Better Living for Garrison explained to city council members that securing the Park District Facility Renovation Grant through the North Dakota Parks & Recreation department would be able to fund renovations at the pool. The grant has two available grant categories. The first, for which Garrison would qualify, is a $1.5 million grant, which is aimed at cities with populations less than 14,999 people; the second, for population centers higher than 15,000, is $3.5 million. The estimate for the pool renovation is in the neighborhood of $560,000.
