Price tag, bond issue plans get closer look

Price tag, bond issue plans get closer look

Dreams started to drift closer to daylight when a group of school administrators, teachers and board members met last week.
The first set of rough blueprints received more scrutiny last week when a group met with a Minot architect on a proposed remodeling and additional plan for the Garrison schools.
Wayne Whitty, architect, met with three board members, two administrators, four educators and a janitor March 31. Whitty projected the plans onto a screen and walked the group through what possibilities were put together after staff and public meetings during the past couple of months.
The group seemed energized in discussing the plans, but the cost estimates of $180 – 200 a square foot initially drew silence. Later, when the entire dream sheet was added up, a $8.4 million price tag, with $2.8 million for the elementary school and $5.6 million for the high school, drew one whistle and a few long faces.
The wish list for the high school called for a larger ag-ed area, commons area with a kitchen, small stage off the commons area, new weight room and lockers, greenhouse, three-four new classrooms and moving the main entry to the gym entrance with administration offices nearby.
