Principal hiring in limbo

Principal hiring in limbo

It looked like a slam dunk.
Three qualified candidates, all available at public-board interviews, school still six weeks from starting. The vote was close in the selection, but a clear candidate emerged.
Ryan Harty of Wilton was first offered the position of Garrison High School principal after interviews July 13. He accepted and then declined three days later because “his family wasn’t ready to make the move,” according to Superintendent Steve Brannan.
In a close vote, Aaron Koenig, a West Fargo business education teacher, was the second choice. Koenig, an Underwood native who graduated from Underwood High School, is a junior high math instructor. He has a high school administration certification.
Koenig taught at schools in Alexander, Bowman, Bismarck, Fargo, Dilworth-Glyndon and Fargo. He was an assistant varsity football coach, an assistant varsity track coach and a varsity basketball coach during his teaching career.
