Proposal to build motel gets cold shoulder in Max

Proposal to build motel gets cold shoulder in Max
By CHERYL ODDEN

During a special meeting of the Max City Council, Russell Titus, Minot, said he would like to bring a new business to Max.
More than 50 community members gathered for the Oct. 17 meeting to hear Titus request permission to construct a 40-unit motel in the city. The proposed location is on land, six city lots, which Titus owns. The lots are northwest of the area that, until recently, was home to Max Cafe and DJ’s Centennial Lounge. (The cafe /lounge building was recently moved to Main Street to allow Max Farm Services to expand its fuel and C-store operation).
Mary Lou Kolden, Roseglen, attended the meeting in support of Titus, her son-in-law. After discussion of the proposed motel, Kolden said those who attended the meeting were basically encouraged to “stand behind” Titus or “tell him to leave.” She said when she and Titus left the meeting, they were disappointed at the lack of support.
