Garrison becomes cardiac ready
BY HUNTER L. ANDES
Garrison is becoming a safer place to live than ever before. As of Thursday, the city is now considered by the North Dakota Department of Health to be a “cardiac ready community.”
“We’ve been working on getting to this point for over a year,” Amanda Melby, EMT at the Garrison ambulance, said. “We have over 30 AEDs (automated external defibrillators) in and around Garrison, and we’re working on getting a couple more after the four we got today. It’s not just about the AEDs though, it’s also educating people in the community. We’re trying to spread knowledge on CPR and AED use to save lives in Garrison.”
Danielle Schoch, North Dakota Department of Health Cardiac/Stroke System Coordinator, was in Garrison on Thursday. She brought four new AEDs and declared Garrison the eleventh community in the state to become “cardiac ready.”
